A grand desert journey from Cairo to Siwa, Bahariya and the White Desert, with eco-lodge stays and a night camping under the stars.

This is not an ordinary trip but a true expedition into the heart of the Western Desert, linking Egypt’s most remote oases with its most surreal landscapes. We travel in 4x4s with oasis drivers and guides who know the desert as well as their own homes.

In Siwa, visit Shali fortress, the Oracle Temple of Amun and Cleopatra’s Spring, float in the salt lakes and roam the dunes of the Great Sand Sea. Then cross the desert to Bahariya, on to the Black Desert and Crystal Mountain, for an unforgettable night camping among the White Desert’s chalk formations.

A programme for adventurous travellers seeking authenticity and silence, with thoughtful comfort and carefully chosen stays.

Day by day

Early departure from Cairo via the north coast and Marsa Matrouh, with a seaside lunch stop, arriving in Siwa in the evening for an eco-lodge stay.
Visit Shali fortress, the Oracle Temple of Amun and the painted tombs of the Mountain of the Dead, swim in Cleopatra’s Spring, then sunset from Gebel Dakrour.
A 4x4 adventure in the Great Sand Sea dunes, a dip in a hot spring amid the sand and a float in the turquoise salt lakes.
A long desert crossing along the oasis route to Bahariya (with prior permits), staying at a lodge with a hot spring.
Explore the Black Desert, Crystal Mountain and the Valley of Agabat, reaching the White Desert at sunset for a Bedouin dinner and a night under the stars.
Watch sunrise over the chalk formations, then return to Cairo via Bahariya, arriving in the evening.
